Reginald N. Shires, age 89, of Silver Spring, MD, passed away peacefully at his home on October 11, 2022. He was married to the late Norma (D’Sena) Shires, who passed away in 2014. Reginald was born in Bangalore, India, and was educated at Clarence High School. He completed his college studies in Theology and English at Spicer College in Kirkee, India, and went on to complete his Master of Arts in Journalism at Pennsylvania State University. He also received his Master of Divinity at Andrews University. Reginald served as church pastor to small and large congregations in India, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Virginia. He was also a college teacher of journalism and speech. His work appeared in The New York Times, The Washington Post, Times of India, Amrita Bazar Patrika and Indian Farming, along with other magazines and journals. He was also the author of two books - The Leopard’s Call and At the Age for Love. Reginald is survived by his children, Juanita D’Costa (Rex), Michael Shires (Cynthia), Donn Shires, and Robert Shires (Judy). He is also survived by seven grandchildren and one great grandchild. Relatives and friends may call at Southern Asian Seventh-day Adventist Church, 2001 E. Randolph Road, Silver Spring MD 20904 on Tuesday, October 18, 2022, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 12:00 p.m. Interment will be private.
