College Park

Richard Barton, of College Park MD., passed away on April 12, 2020 at the Hillhaven Assisted Living Center in Adelphi MD. He was born to a large family in St. Charles Missouri. He married Georgia, his wife of 69 years, on November 24, 1950. It was a union which lasted over 69 years, produced 4 children, 4 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

After graduating High School, where he set a record in Track and Field, Richard joined the Army during WW2. He attained the rank of Sergeant spending much of his time in China. After his discharge, he went on to use the GI bill to obtain a degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Missouri. After moving to Maryland, he worked for the Naval Ordinance Lab in White Oak until his retirement almost 40 years ago.

He loved his children but his eyes really lit up at the site of his grandchildren and great grandchildren, attending all of the graduations and after school events they were in such as baseball, basketball, music.

He is survived by his sons: David (Colleen) of Germantown MD., Dennis (Claire) of Crofton MD, Donald (JoAnn) of Deale MD. and his daughter Deborah of Greenbelt MD. (who, as his sidekick, was instrumental in helping he and Georgia navigate and enjoy their senior years). Granddaughters Jennifer Young (Derek), Danielle Swimm (Jeremy) and Lisa Barton. Grandson Robert and great grandkids Kylie, Mikey, Brandon, Jonathan and Isla Rose.

He was preceded in death by his wife Georgia, his parents, sisters and brothers.

A private Funeral Service and internment will take place on Friday, April 17, 2020 at the Maryland National Memorial Park in Laurel MD.
