Robert "Bob" Caho

June 28, 1926 — July 24, 2021

Robert (Bob) Joseph Caho, born Robert Herman Kittridge June 28, 1926, passed at his home in Berkeley County, West Virginia on July 24, 2021 with family and his beloved dog Cleo nearby. Robert, formerly of Hyattsville, Maryland was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He served our country for almost 40 years as a civilian with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Topographic Command, also known as the Army Map Service. In his career with military mapping Robert worked on many national events including the Korean and Vietnam wars, mapping the Soviet missiles in Cuba 1963 and maps for the moon landings in 1969, and other special projects earned him letters of appreciation from President Richard Nixon and General of the Army Omar Bradley.  In addition to his mapping career, he was the volunteer Deputy Director of the Prince Georges County Civil Defense. Civil Defense was the predecessor of the modern Office of Emergency Management and was responsible for local emergency training and preparedness. He was a graduate of the Federal Civil Defense Rescue School (1954) and was a Heavy Rescue Instructor and one of the earliest CPR instructors for Prince George's County.

Robert is preceded in death by one son, Kenneth, his wife of 54 years, Alma Shreve Caho,  Alma passed in 2003 and was the nurse at the Army Topographic Command location outside Washington, D.C. Robert and Alma were long time members of Berwyn United Presbyterian Church where he served as a Deacon and Trustee. He is also preceded in death by Tess Amberson Caho who passed in 2017. He is survived by his sons Ronald and his wife Irene of Gerraredstown, WV,  and Alan and his wife Sandy of Middletown, MD. Grandchildren  Steven, Timothy, Ally and her husband Matt, and Andrew and his fiancee Autumn.

Robert’s viewing will be from 5 PM to 7PM Monday, August 2, 2021 with a funeral service at 7PM at the Donald Borgwardt Funeral Home, 4400 Powder Mill Road, Beltsville, MD 20705. Internment will be private.
