Beloved husband of 57 years to the late Wilhelmina M. Fluhr; loving father of Mary Sager, Carol Gibbs, Allen Gibbs, Michael Gibbs (Kathryn Ierulli), and Susan Gibbs; grandfather of Geoffrey Gibbs; brother of the late Wallace Gibbs; uncle of many nieces and nephews. He attended Fordham University, where he received his doctorate in chemistry. He was deeply committed to and active in his Catholic faith and the right-to-life movement through the Children of the Rosary and other organizations. He had been an officer for the Archdiocese of Washington Holy Name Society, a member of Knights of Columbus Council 2809, and a founding member of the Beltsville Interracial Group in the 1960s. He spent most of his career at the USDA, NIH and UDC. Interment Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
