Ronald Lawrence Malin passed away Sunday, January 10, 2016 in Florence, SC. He was born June 11, 1942 to Lawrence White and Marion June Malin in Takoma Park, Maryland. The family including his older brother, David, soon moved to Hyattsville. His Dad and Mom along with Uncle Wendell and Aunt Gladys began the establishment and construction of Eugene Leland Memorial Hospital in Riverdale, MD. James, Janet, Robert and Douglas soon joined their siblings. The children would often go to Leland after school and have supper and sometimes spent the evening riding in the car with Dr. Lawrence as he made house calls on his patients.
Moving ahead a few years, Ron attended John Nevins Adrews Elementary School in Takoma Prak, MD for grades 1 through 8. He graduated from Blue Mountain Academy in Hamburg, PA in 1960. While attending Columbia Union College, he trained for his career as an X-Ray Technologist. Ron married Dolly Thomas in June, 1969. Ron began working at Leland Memorial Hospital in technology and management positions. In 1979, he briefly relocated to Tidewater Memorial Hospital. Later went to Martinsburg General Hospital and most recently retired from McCloud Hospital in Florence, SC..
Ron volunteered for the Beltsville Volunteer Fire Department and enjoyed sports and outdoor activities, including boating, fishing, golfing and playing shortstop for his baseball team. Recent summer vacations included fishing and camping trips with his sons. He also enjoyed his grandchildren and enthusiastically spoke of their achievements in their sporting activities and academics.
He is survived by two sons, Ronald Lawrence Malin, Jr. and Thomas (Karen) Alan Malin and 4 grandchildren, Mitchell Lawrence, Michael Alan, Joseph Thomas and Samamntha Marie.
