On February 17, 2015, Ruth joined her husband Ralph; parents Merle and Emma Hay and sisters Betty Himes and Evelyne Houston in the presence of the Lord. Born October 14, 1920 in Berlin PA, she lived in PA, MD, VA, TX and even Morocco before settling with her husband and daughters in Berwyn Heights, MD where she resided for 37 years. The last 14 years she lived with her eldest daughter and son-in-law in Silver Spring, MD.
Ruth was an accomplished vocalist and sang with the Pittsburgh Opera Company, various bands, a German folk group and in several church choirs. She was a wartime welder in Ambridge, PA. She worked for the federal government in Washington, DC and at various retail establishments before focusing all her attention on the vocation she loved best—wife, mother and grandmother.
Outgoing and exuberant, Ruth was well-loved by her family and friends. Her big heart had room for them all and she was always ready to welcome someone new—with enthusiasm!
She leaves her son, James H. Morrison (Warsaw, IN) and his wife Esther; daughters Ruth Williams and Nadene Neel and their husbands Robert Williams and Derek Jackson (all in Silver Spring, MD); grandchildren Aaron Morrison, Laila Bunker, Laura Richcreek, Alia Goodyear and Melissa Mowell, along with their spouses and 12 great grandchildren. A Memorial Service is planned for Saturday, March 28, 2015, 11:00 am at Berwyn Baptist Church in College Park, MD where she was a member for more than 50 years. Interment will be May 8, 2015, 2:00 pm at Arlington National Cemetery.
Ruth was an avid gardener who loved flowers of all kinds. A single rose would bring a smile. She also loved her church. Should you wish to honor her memory in this way, gifts in lieu of flowers may be made to Berwyn Baptist Church, 4720 Cherokee St., College Park, MD 20740.
