Stanley E. Marshall, Jr.

Stanley (Stan) E. Marshall Jr. was born to Kizzie Hewlett Marshall and Stanley E. Marshall Sr. on July 10, 1940, on the campus of St. Paul’s College, a historically Black institution in Lawrenceville, VA. Stan was also raised by two stepmothers, Mother Marie and Lulu Pruitt Marshall following Kizzie’s untimely death when he was four months old.

Stan attended James Solomon Russell High School in Lawrenceville, VA and graduated in 1957.  He later earned a Bachelor’s degree in Electronic Technology (Electronic Engineering) at Capital Radio Engineering Institute (CREI), now known as Capitol Technology University located in Laurel, Md.  Stan was drafted into the United States Army in 1963 and served his country working on nuclear weapons while stationed in South Korea.  He would later receive his Master’s degree in Engineering Administration from George Washington University. He spent the majority of his career working at ARINC Research as a Senior Engineer until his retirement in 1997.

Stan became interested in amateur radio (ham radio) operations at the early age of 17, learned Morse code and picked up a deep understanding of electronics. He eventually earned an Extra Class license (W3GZVsk) for amateur radio and shared this hobby with his wife Jacinta for many years as well.  In addition to ham radio, his interest in electronics led him to build radio receivers and transmitters for amateur stations, electronic test equipment, color TVs, and even an electronic organ. His final and most impressive project is the AG Infinity Clock Display which is a colored LED light show and a clock that uses colorful LEDs to represent time.  Stan dedicated this final project to his predeceased beloved grandson, Aaron Gene (AG) Marshall. Stan was a faithful and devoted servant of God who lived his life by example.  He was an incredible husband for 51 years to his sweetheart Jacinta; they raised their two children to be independent and God-fearing. Stan taught them how to face life’s adversities through his example of steadfast faith, grace, and triumph.  He was also a loving grandfather who helped to raise his oldest grandson, AG into the fine young man he became.

A faithful member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Beltsville, MD for 43 years, he was a leader among the church community serving for several years as the church’s Senior Warden and Vestry member (church leadership board) while also leading the church’s Acolyte program mentoring and guiding the youth. He enjoyed sharing his knowledge with young people as a volunteer member of RESET (Retired Scientists, Engineers and Technicians) visiting local elementary schools in the inner city and conducting electronic experiments with students.  Later in life, he and his wife volunteered with Donate Life, a non-profit organization, to share his story as a kidney recipient and raise awareness of the importance of organ donation.

Stan was known throughout the community and among his family and friends as a remarkable man of quiet strength, warmth, and kindness. He always had a constant smile and word of encouragement for those who needed it most.  His legacy of love, faith, courage and gentleness amid adversity will remain with those who knew him.

Stanley E. Marshall Jr. who peacefully passed on December 26, 2021, leaves behind his loving and devoted wife, Jacinta Marshall, his daughter Dr. Alycia Marshall, her fiancé, Arnold Keith Adkins Jr., his son, Brian Eugene Marshall, Brian’s wife, Adriana, grandsons Lucas and Justin, beloved niece, Sheena Lewis (Assistant Director, General Services at Riderwood) and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
