Local musician Steven Lee (Steve) Dorman passed away Monday, January 25th, 2016 at his home in Beltsville, MD of natural causes. Steve was well known and highly respected in the musical community of the District area. A talented keyboardist and singer, he worked with numerous local musicians in various combinations. As the family moved, Steve attended schools in Hagerstown, Frostburg, and Frederick, MD and Winchester, VA.   He began his musical career while attending James Wood high School in Winchester as a founding member of Mod and the Rockers, and as recently as last October, the group reformed for the last of a series of sold out reunion concerts.  Following a two year stint in the US Army, Steve returned to the area and began his professional career.  He toured nationally with several groups, including White Willow and Northberry Chapel, before locating permanently to the DC area for the last 40 years. Steve was a true child of the rock era, but was a gifted and versatile outstanding jazz pianist as well, working in every setting from solo pianist to jazz and rock combos to big band front man. He truly loved playing and in recent years was also a frequent entertainer at DC and Maryland retirement facilities, singing and playing standards to the delight of residents. Steve was the son of the late David and Ruth Dorman of Hagerstown, MD., both talented musicians as well. He is survived by an older brother, Michael Dorman, of The Villages, FL and a younger sister, Mary Ellen (Dorman) Pease, of Freeland MD. A celebration of Steve's life will be held at a date to be announced.
