Thelma Annette Donnellan

February 3, 1945 — November 14, 2020

Greenbelt

Greenbelt resident Thelma Annette (Ann) Donnellan died on November 14, 2020 at age 75. She was born in Los Angeles, CA to Raymond James and Maude (Dragoo) Donnellan on February 3, 1945.

She graduated from James Monroe High School in Sepulveda, CA in 1963. Ann loved the West Coast but decided to move east in the early seventies to, as she said, 'grow up.' She was a typesetter at a newspaper in Woodbury, New Jersey then re-located to Maryland in 1976, where she lived the rest of her life.

She worked at Council Press, Robey Graphics, and T.A.R.P. before retiring from the University of Maryland in 2016 as an administrative assistant in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. For many years she also worked part time at Paint Branch Golf Complex and was a dedicated volunteer with First Tee.

Ann had an exuberant personality and loved to meet people and try new things. She was an enthusiastic cook, an avid golfer, a tenacious jigsaw puzzler, and a daunting pool player. She enjoyed music and dancing and took lessons in guitar and old time banjo. She loved celebrations and was a joyful part of all Painter family holidays. Her big heart and cheerful spirit fostered lasting connections with neighbors, co-workers, and members of a welcoming online community.

Ann is survived by her life partner Elizabeth Painter, brothers-in-law William Painter (Kathy) and James Painter,  nieces Kierstan Schwab (Carlton)  and Emily McFarlane (Josh) , and cherished  grandnieces Karina, Violet, Iris, and Rose.

Interment will be private. A celebration of life may be held at a later date in 2021. Family and friends are invited to share their memories of Ann on the Tribute Wall.
