Theresa Chitom Egbue (80), Passed away peacefully after a brief illness on January 26th at Casey House in Rockville, Maryland. Theresa was one of 5 children born to the late Aaron and Florence Ifekwunigwe on June 16, 1936 in Nnando, Anambra State, Nigeria. Theresa attended primary school in Anambra State, Nigeria and Women’s Teaching College in Umuahia, Nigeria. In 1960, Theresa received her certification as a Verbatim Reporter from Pittmans College in London, England.

August of 1959, Theresa wed Nereus Egbue and to this union they were blessed with 4 children. Early in her career Theresa worked as a secretary and teacher. Theresa’s career advanced and she became an entrepreneur/distributor in Nigeria for Nestle products and later established a successful transportation business from which she retired in 1995. Theresa along with her husband moved to the United States in the Fall of 1995. In 1997, Theresa became affiliated with St. Joseph’s Church in Beltsville, Maryland.

Theresa was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching tennis and basketball. Theresa also loved to dance and could be seen at any family function doing her traditional dance.

Theresa is survived by her devoted husband Nereus of 57 years. Four sons: Chuka (Nigeria), Uzonna (Frank) and his wife Simbo of Gainesville, Virginia, Ndidiamaka (Charles) and his wife Tushaun of Gainesville, Virginia, Ikechukwu (Ike) and his wife Theodosia of Brentwood, Maryland. One brother Aaron and his wife Muriel of Petersburg, Virginia. Eight grandchildren: Chizoba (Kehinde) of London, England, Jasmine (Raymond) Mills of St. Petersburg, Fl, Chinonso (Kevin) Ojirogbe of Atlanta, Ga., Charles Jr, Chasya and Chanise Egbue of Gainesville, Virginia and Ike Jr. and Adaora Egbue of Brentwood, Md; 5 great grands and a host of nieces and nephews.
