Thomas Leland Lane was born April 5, 1952 and died June 29, 2015 at his home in Laurel, Maryland. A graduate of High Point High School in Calverton, he went on to earn his Bachelor of Arts degree in Urban Studies from the University of Maryland College Park. He enjoyed sports and was an accomplished athlete on volleyball and softball leagues from his youth into his early 40s. After retiring from Verizon, he spent his time tinkering with cars, fixing up houses, and mowing the lawns of neighbors and friends. He loved helping people and was generous with his time and friendship, even with strangers who often became his friends. Sentimental, funny, and with a sharp wit, he was a big man with a big personality who made an impression on everyone he met. Tom was truly one of a kind and will be greatly missed by the many people that love him. He is survived by his daughter Rebecca Lane Istvan and grandson Liam Leland Istvan of Catonsville, MD; sisters Diana Lane Goodsight of Cazenovia, NY and Barbara Keller of Beltsville, MD; brothers Michael Morenko of Marysville, MI, and Ray Lane of Takoma Park, MD; numerous nieces and nephews, his companion of many years, Kathleen Schehl, and lifelong friends Clare McCabe, Brad and Terry Poston, and Carl Oliver.
