Peacefully passed away at the Benton House Assisted Living facility in Titusville, Florida on Sunday, November 2, 2014. Vernelle raised her family in the Laurel area and lived in Laurel for more than 20 years. She was the beloved wife of the late James W. Thompson, devoted mother of David, Cheryl and the late James K., cherished grandmother of Jessica, Mark, Melissa, Donnie, Denise, Stacy, Jason and great grandmother of 13. Vernelle was born in Patmos, Arkansas on October 9, 1924 to her parents, Dorsey and Ernie Burns. She was a devout Christian who loved serving our Lord, playing piano and singing gospel music. She loved to entertain. Her home was always filled with love, laughter and fellowship. She was immensely loved and adored for her kind heart and funny sense of humor. She was a gracious lady and a blessing to all those who knew her. Relatives and friends may call at the Borgwardt Funeral Home 4400 Powder Mill Road Beltsville, Maryland Friday, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. where funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 8, with The Reverend Nathaniel Caffee officiating; Interment Ivy Hill Cemetery in Laurel.
