Vernon E. Poole, Sr.

College Park

Vernon E. Poole, Sr., 87, of College Park, MD passed away on July 21, 2020.  He was born in Cumberland, MD to the late Elmer Poole and Helen Poole (nee Colbert).

He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Frances Poole (nee Teter); two sons, Vernon E. Poole, Jr. of College Park, MD and Jeffrey S. Poole of Appleton, WI, his daughter, Debra K. Brown of Crofton, MD; his daughter-in-law, Sandy Poole and one grandson, Shawn Poole.

Vernon graduated from Fort Hill High School in Cumberland, MD where he was a drummer in the marching band. After high school he spent 4 years Active Duty in the Air Force during which time he served in Korea, California, New York, and other duty stations.  He went on to graduate from the University of MD, College Park, during which time he met Frances, and then became an automotive technology instructor at Northwood High School in Wheaton, MD for over 20 years.  He retired in 1983 and continued to work on automobiles in his home garage for several decades.

Vernon was an accomplished pilot who enjoyed flying a variety of general aviation aircraft for many years, from a Piper Cherokee to a Mooney M20 Turbo Executive, and he & Frances even re-built an award winning Piper Pacer aircraft in his garage. He was an avid member of EAA (Experimental Aircraft Assn.) Chapter 4 at College Park Airport.  He was an active member of the Quiet Birdmen (QBs) at the Baltimore Hangar until his passing.

A service with Honor Guard and presentation of the US Flag will be held graveside at the Hillcrest Burial Park in Cumberland, MD on Tuesday, July 28, 2020 at 1 p.m.
