William A. Robertson

March 3, 1937 — February 1, 2017

Beloved husband Scarlet Smith Robertson for 48 years; loving father of Aimee (Larry) Summers and Matthew W. (Amanda) Robertson; cherished grandfather of James W. and Elizabeth Summers;  brother of G. Donald (Mary Jane) Robertson; son-in-law of Elfa Jean Smith; Also survived by other  family and friends.Worked in the printing department at the University of Maryland for over 41 years, first as a linotype and letterpress operator and later moved to the camera room where film & offset plates were made. He retired in 1998. After Mr. Robertson’s retirement from the University, he worked part-time at several local Model Railroad Shops.  His knowledge of railroad history was extensive and he spent many hours reading and studying his collection of railroad books. He built an elaborate model train layout in the basement of his home. His layout and trains were truly a labor of love with many hours spent researching and then replicating in great detail the prototype trains. His family and friends thought of him as a “Master Model Railroader.”
